About Spiraless

Spiraless is an instrumental jazz-rock fusion project led by Bulgarian guitarist/composer Todor Peev, also known as "Blue2you" in the music world. The band was originally formed in 2006 on Réunion Island as an international collaboration between Peev, fellow Bulgarian guitarist Atanas Shishkov, and bassist Kevin Gobin.

Due to the multinational lineup, their early work was recorded "on the road" using a mobile studio setup on a laptop with a Motu sound card. This presented unique challenges but also allowed for creative flexibility that defined their distinctive sound.

The Musical Philosophy

Spiraless began as a studio-focused project blending jazz, blues, and rock influences, with Peev as the primary composer and bandleader. The group's name would later also serve as the title of their albums, representing both the project and its artistic philosophy.

Technical Excellence

The band's dedication to technical excellence is evident in their equipment choices and production values. Peev utilizes Tom Anderson guitars, Diezel amplification, TC Electronic gear, and RMC Wah Peterson StroboStomp pedals, while maintaining a commitment to both digital precision and analog warmth.

Formation and Recording

Spiraless was recorded on the road using a mobile studio workstation based on MacBook Pro with a Motu sound card. This innovative approach allowed the band to capture their creative ideas wherever inspiration struck.

Technical Excellence

All titles were composed by Todor Peev (Blue2you) and Atanas Shishkov, with arrangements by Kevin Gobin. The debut album showcased a mix of jazz-fusion and blues-rock flavors, recorded between September 2006 and February 2007.

The Full Ensemble Revival

After 13 years, Todor Peev revived Spiraless for a second full-length album, this time with a complete ensemble of live musicians. Peev had originally planned a follow-up as early as 2008 but postponed it "because of the lack of real musicians (drums, piano)." By 2020, he assembled some of Bulgaria's finest contemporary jazz/fusion players.

Featuring Todor Peev (guitar, composition), Atanas Shishkov (guitar), Miroslav Turiyski (keyboards), Alexander Lekov (bass), and Nacho Gospodinov (drums).

Musical Evolution

This sophomore release retained Spiraless's fusion ethos while expanding the stylistic palette. The real rhythm section added organic depth to arrangements that were previously built with programming, creating a richer, more dynamic sound that showcased the evolution of the band's musical vision over the 13-year gap between albums.
